Agile Membership Permission setting - Questions!

I need a little bit of information regarding the permission settings in Agile Membership.

By default all the options are unchecked. Am I to understand that if all are unchecked than the permission do not apply? If I uncheck one does that mean that every option that is unchecked is unaccesible?
In short If I want to limit to the user to certain sections of the site, do I need to check them or check everything else?

Yes, you are correct, if it is not checked, the permission control will not apply.
If you want to apply the permission, you have to check them. for example, if you want to set one category as membership only, then check that category and click save.

by default all are not checked because most customer do not use for permission purpose.
